The 2017 Hanover County Historical Society's Christmas Dinner took place on Tuesday, December 5th at Covenant Woods in Mechanicsville. This year's event was a particularly special one, as it celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Society's founding.

A framed proclamation from the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, honoring the Society's work over the past 50 years, was presented to Society president Faye Wade by the Board's Vice Chair, Sean Davis.
This year's speaker was Captain John Martin of Henricus, portrayed by historical reenactor John D. Pagano. Henricus Historical Park's Historical Interpretation Supervisor, Pagano presented thoughts on the matter of Christmastide from a colonial, 17th-century perspective. He also spoke about his experiences at Henricus Park, and its historical mission.
